#### Types of Alchemical Products There are several different types of items an alchemist can craft. Each is used in a different way, to better serve its purpose. The type of items an alchemist crafts are: * Elixir: This is a liquid for drinking, it is kept in a standard size vial and must be consumed all at once to be effective. * Item: This is an object whose use is not predicated upon being ingested, it can be any number of alchemical creations, from Purple Ink to Tindertwigs to Glue or anything in between. * Material: This is an alloy or substance that an alchemist crafts to be used by other craftsmen to create items of their trade. * Oil: This is a liquid which is applied to an item or person. It is usually stored in a flask and needs to be used all at once to be effective. #### Alchemical Ingredients The ingredients of the trade are limitless, alchemists can utilize almost any naturally occurring substance in the use of the trade. The most widely recognized ingredients are inorganic materials like minerals and ores, but that is not a prohibition against the use of plant or animal material as well. Some of the most potent creations of alchemy are crafted with both organic and inorganic ingredients. Almost any material has a limitless possibility of mixing with another ingredient to form something more than the sum of its parts; in fact it is the basis of alchemy that the proper mixture of ingredients brings forth a new creation. There are of course, standard ingredients, those whose uses are well known and time tested. These ingredients are categorized by their elemental association, sphere of influence, and rarity. There are 10 common elemental association categories: * Air * Earth * Fire * Water * Life * Death * Spirit * Mind * Void * Energy Alchemical creations are greater than the sum of the parts used to make them, which is how the craft differs from Herbalism. Each characteristic of an ingredient interacts with those of all other ingredients to develop extraordinary effects. While the more common ingredients like a teaspoon of ants for their elemental association of earth may be added to a common rarity creation that requires that trait, it may require 10 buckets of ants to create the same creation with a Masterwork rarity. You'd be unlikely to find enough ants to create a legendary creation similarly! However, some ingredients, a single drop of Ancient Blue Dragon's blood for example, may be potent enough to satisfy the elemental association (earth) needs of a legendary creation. Any ingredient may be used to create an alchemical creation of any rarity, but the amount needed will vary. The potency of an ingredient is listed in it's attributes. Each recipe will require a certain number of "units" of each elemental association, which are satisfied by adding enough ingredients whose potency matches the requirement. In general the rarer the ingredient, the more potent it is. General guidelines for ingredient essences by rarity are as follows: * Common: 1 Essence * Uncommon 2 Essences * Rare: 10 essences * Very Rare: 50 Essences * Legendary 250 Essences Different rarity alchemical creations require difference numbers of these ingredient "units", which are referred to as Essences. * Common: 4 Essences(25g) * Fine: 10 Essences (50g) * Exceptional: 50 Essences (200g) * Masterwork: 250 Essences (800g) * Legendary: 1000 Essences (2400g) ## Crafting an Alchemical Creation 1. Choose a recipe for which you meet the tool proficiency prerequisite. 2. Obtain alchemical ingredients with the correct type and quanitity of essences for the recipe. * Example: A Potion of Healing (Exceptional) requires 30 Life essences, 10 Spirit essences, 5 Fire essences, and 5 Water essences. These ingredients may come in the form of 1x Vial of Storm Giant Blood (50 Life Essence, 10 Air Essence, 10 Energy Essence), 2x Mud Mephit Heart ( 3 Earth Essence, 3 Water Essence), and 10 Sprigs of White Sage (1 Spirit Essence). In this case some Essences may not be used to their maximum efficiency - the Vial of Storm Giant Blood is highly potent and contains 50 Life Essence, though only 30 Life Essence are required for the recipe. 3. Divide the total cost of the item by your crafting rate to determine the amount of time it takes to craft the alchemical creation. ### Common Alchemical Creations Recipes **Elixir of Health** (Exceptional) 25 Life, 15 Mind, 10 Spirit.
