*“Fragments of the very gods themselves in mortal form. Transcending bloodlines, eschewing the rules of natural reproduction, these vestiges manifest at unpredictable times and locations in the material plane. It’s said all vestiges are present every moment in history, but they are dormant in the minds and bodies of their hosts most of the time, needing a spark or some sort to fully emerge.”* -Mostafa Qasemi, Resident Historian of [[Al Lihsa Palace]], 1136 AE The term “vesitge” actually describes only the fragment of a god’s essence that inhabits a mortal body, but by association, has also come to encompass the whole entity created by such a vestige. Celestial Vestiges are rare and powerful, though most of the time, appear as ordinary humanoids who have no idea that they are actually beings of immense power. A godly essence could lie dormant for generations at a time, passing from mortal to mortal every time the body of the vestige passes on. On the rare occasion that the vestige awakens to its full potential, legends are born – whether heroic or ominous. Every known god has a vestige on the material plane, and the characteristics that their vestige exhibits aligns with the will of said god. For example, an awoken vestige of Chronos may lead a life of intense study and reveal the workings of cosmos in a way unimaginable before their time, they will likely be remembered as one of the greatest scientific and philosophical minds in known history. The vestiges of darker gods, though are just as powerful as those of heroic ones – the vestige of Cyric might unravel entire empires from the inside, and unite their disparate peoples under a dark banner, leaving legends of a terrible tyrant emperor. Vestiges hold great power in competition between gods that are vying for dominance over one another as they are the only godly essences that are able to interact with with the material plane since the creation of the [[Aegis Celestia]].
