The Aegis Coalition represents the largest politically-independent military force on the continent, owing allegiance to no single nation or power. Instead, the group is comprised of individual personnel and patrons from the four nations of \[\[Breonid\]\], \[\[Tyrille\]\], \[\[Velan\]\] and the former nation of \[\[Vomenad\]\]. The Coalition began, not as a response to external threat or invasion, but to the threats from within the nations themselves. A group of 9 wealthy individuals, among which were various dukes and barons, drafted and signed a pledge to each other to build a military force that would provide protection from greedy kings and emperors who were ignoring the problems faced by these individuals and the gentry below them in an effort to grow their own power and wealth. The pledge and the force itself took the name “The Aegis Coalition”, and since the ink dried on that pledge in 1649 \[\[AE\]\], has expanded to include 10,000 individuals over 4 nations. Now, over two centuries after its forefathers have passed, it’s main functions are to serve as a peacekeeping body between the four nations and to dispose of non-politically-oriented threats to the four lands. Any man or woman wishing to join the Aegis Coalition has the right to, though there are no wages or pay associated with the position. Each member is required to fund their own endeavor, even though he/she is bound by oath to follow the orders of their commander. As such, the majority of members have wealthy patrons who pledge their gold to the cause in return for the protection that only a politically-unbiased fighting force can provide.
